We the members of Indian Society of U3A, a part of worldwide movement of Universities of Third Age directed towards active and graceful ageing, submitted as under: The Income Tax exemption limit be raised to Rs 3.00 lakhs especially for (a) older persons in 70+ age group, (b) widowed old women with no family support, and (c) pensioners with a total yearly income of Rs 3.00 lakhs. (a) Rail concession to the tune of 40% to any senior citizen and 50% to all in the age group of 75+, (b) The above concession be allowed in all modes and all types of travel without exception. The old age pension be admissible to all the elderly with an yearly income of 25000 p.a. to the tune of Rs 1500 p.m. and paid at their doorstep or by M.O All elders in 70+ age group with annual income up to Rs 3.00 lakhs be provided health policy at a nominal cost to meet medical expenses and specialists services. To reduce financial burden of the government, NGOs Senior Citizens Organisation and U3A groups may be encouraged to serve the cause of elderly and may be offered grants, incentives etc for the same. To utilise rich potentials of the elderly, incentives may be provided to industrial and commercial houses, professional organisations and other institutions for utilizing service of the elders. Special allocations need to be made to organisations working for the elderly for day care, multi-service, recreational centers, leisure time activities. To prevent growing elde- abuse, families providing care and support be compensated by way of Income Tax relief, medical facility, house rent and housing loan etc. provision may be made for setting up Regional Institutes of ageing for carrying out training, research and educational programmes for the elderly with the involvement of senior citizens organisations, U3A groups and NGOs Hopefully, some of the above points will receive your kind attention in the interest of fast growing elderly population.
