I'm 59 have Congestive Heart Failure, TB (two bellies) and one new knee and one coming in feb. I sometimes talk about the way things were 6 years ago when I lifted weights qand worked out 6 evenings a week. My chest was 11 bigger than my waist and i had very little body fat. Now I'm the perfect pear

. and it's time to forget the past and look to a new future. Bryan! I said cuz that's my name. Qwitchurbitching and get with the program. I went on a search for the ideal way to stay active , build muscle and improve my cardiovascular situation . I cleaned out my _base_ment and sold my olympic weights, machines and benches. I hadn't used them in 6 years and besides piddling off my dear wife, they were gathering dust. I finished studding , wiring and drywalling the _base_ment and made a very attractyive exercise room. I must say, my lovely wife is really excited about the whole process. She loves walking, so i bought here a really nice treadmill. We had both made the rounds of all of the fitness equipment dealers and as usual I had over researched the whole situation. I selected a Pacemaster Pro Elite for Marion. It's got a 3 hp motor , a very comfortable 58 by 20 deck and a very well designed control panel. It was a riot watching her walk the showroom model, for a short, somewhat petite lady she has a very agressive stride. She liked the unit and it felt good to walk on. It's also made in the US (not offshore) which is a plus. During rehab for my first knee replacement i had researched the best alternatives for low impact exercise. Aquatics is great but not something that i'd do on a daily basis. My therapist felt that an eliptical trainer might fit the bill. To cut to the chase, only 3 brands had a smooth enough stride. The more inexpensive machines were shaky and had an uncontrolled choppiness. The most reasonable unit was the vision elliptical. Vision make a basic model which is then dressed up with various levels of electronics. The unit was very smooth, and with a very well controlled resistance. The _base_ unit can be bought for $1200 Canadian and if you want more bells and whistles you can spend up to $2000. Vision make a heavier machine which is rated for users up to 400 lbs. For those that don't even approach the max weight, it's still a nice alternative. The extra weigh does make the unit operate more smoothly. Life fitness make a very well enineered model. Lifefitness have made a name for themselves by supplying most of the Health and Fitness Clubs. It's a great machine but it costs $3000 Canadian. It has a very smooth and one of the longest strides on the market. The brand i finally decided on was the Octane. The Octane is enineered in the US but built in Taiwan. it is however the smoothest and the most biomechanically correct (for me at any rate) elliptical on the market. It's not cheap and at $3000 can about the same price as the Lifefitness. It's heavier, better built and has more options. It's fun to use. After using this puppy, I'm tired but i feel good, very good. Now in case the interest wanes, I've put a decent stereo system in and have the cable people booked to give me a digital drop so I can watch some tv. It cost a few bucks but nowhere as much as my funeral would have.
